How to record yourself reacting to a video
Use a reaction recorder to play an imported video while capturing your camera and microphone. In Reakt for iPhone, choose a picture-in-picture or split-screen layout so the source and your response appear together in the exported video.
Your reaction should be easy to see and hear without obscuring the source. A small camera overlay works well for detailed footage; a split screen gives facial expressions more room.
Step by step
Prepare the source
Save a video you own or have permission to reuse on your phone, then import it into Reakt.
Choose how you appear
Pick picture-in-picture for a face camera overlay or split screen for two distinct viewing areas. Check that important source details remain visible.
Check light and sound
Keep your face lit and make a short recording to check that your commentary is clear against the source audio.
Record while watching
Look at the moment you are discussing, then explain your response naturally. A brief introduction gives new viewers context.
Review the combined result
Check the timing between the source and your commentary. If the take is unclear, re-record before exporting and sharing.
Face camera or voice-only commentary?
This guide covers recording your face and voice together. Facial expressions can carry the response, but your explanation still needs to stand on its own. Describe the detail you are reacting to instead of relying only on a surprised expression.
